B&A'S NEW DIRECTOR IS "NO TAX ANORAK"

LEIGHTON REED NEW TAX DIRECTOR WITH BROOMFIELD & ALEXANDERProfessional advisors Broomfield & Alexander has completed a major restructuring of its tax department with the formal announcement of the arrival of Leighton Reed as tax director.

His presence represents a commitment by the South Wales firm to develop its tax credentials by strengthening its expertise and capacity, and he joins to head an 18-strong team which includes four new tax advisors with over 50 years' experience between them appointed earlier this year.

Leighton joins from rival PKF, where he was head of corporate tax for South Wales and the South West, and arrives hot on the heels of former PKF colleague Mark Hislop who joined Broomfield & Alexander's corporate finance team from the firm in June.

Leighton, aged 39, began his career at KPMG in 1989, becoming a chartered accountant in 1992 and a chartered tax adviser in 1993. As well as MBO experience, he brings to Broomfield & Alexander expertise gathered from working with blue chip clients.

He said he had targets in his sights in his new role ranging from companies with international expansion plans or existing international offices, to profitable and dynamic owner managed businesses, as well as advising individuals on everything from the extraction of funds from their businesses, to inheritance tax planning.

"I want to focus in particular on helping clients save tax on transactions, whether as part of an exit plan or as part of an acquisition. I'll be working closely with, and leveraging off, our strong corporate finance team, bolstered as it has been by Mark's arrival," he said.

"Basically my mission at Broomfield & Alexander is to cut tax bills. I'm not a stereotypical tax anorak, but I can spot an opportunity to save tax and can communicate complex tax issues in a way that people understand!

"It's about combining that mission with being commercially minded. There's no point suggesting something that may save tax if it does not fit in with the person's goals, or if the risk or cost of implementation is too high when compared to the reward.

" Broomfield & Alexander managing director Robert Preece said he was delighted to have attracted such a well-known and high-calibre candidate as Leighton.

"This is testament to the quality of our clients and their ability to demand challenging and interesting work of our team" he said.

"Leighton will bring anther dimension to our tax services, and we are confident of the future development of our tax practice under his leadership."
