JO’S CHARITY EXPERTISE ACHIEVES SECOND DIPLOMA FOR BROOMFIELD & ALEXANDER
A South Wales accountant who specialises in helping to make charities more efficient and profitable has become only the 11th professional advisor in Wales to gain a prestigious accountancy qualification.
Joanne Bartlett, Charities manager with Broomfield & Alexander based in Newport and Cardiff, has passed her Diploma in Charity Accounting, a leading qualification in the UK which recognises her knowledge of, and experience in, the not-for-profit sector.
Jo, who began working with Broomfield & Alexander in 2005, is the second individual in the firm to gain the Diploma - her colleague, director Sarah Case, was also awarded the qualification last year.
Fewer than 700 professional accountants in the UK hold the Diploma, and Broomfield & Alexander is one of only seven firms in Wales whose staff have attained the level.
Jo, who is now entitled to use the designatory letters DChA after her name, said she was extremely proud to have been recognised.
“Broomfield & Alexander have a particular specialism in the charity sector and have been instrumental in encouraging me to develop my own interest and aim for this qualification,” she said.
“It’s very exciting and gratifying to have gained it. Working with charities is fulfilling both professionally and personally – they are operating in a very particular environment and when it comes to accounting for their finances, specialist capability is increasingly needed to understand the regulations, structures and issues of probity within which they are obliged to operate.
“I very much look forward to continuing to apply my knowledge to help not-for-profit organisations – it’s very rewarding to know that you are helping charities which do so much good to run more efficiently, so that ultimately more money goes towards the good causes which they represent.”
