Why take out this policy?
You may know that HMRC are now much wiser and tougher on tackling tax return errors, tax avoidance and tax evasion. HMRC now have more powers to raise an enquiry into a tax return and is they find that something is incorrect they can impose a penalty of up to 100% of the tax underpaid. HMRC now have much less discretion over penalties and this regime applies to all taxpayers, that is individuals, companies and trustees and to all returns or other documents filed with HMRC.
The new regime has been drawn up to encourage people to take more care when submitting tax returns and other documents, as well as to deter deliberate under-assessment of tax liabilities.
Most taxpayers do take reasonable care with their tax affairs and so penalties should never become as issue. However, with HMRC’s changing focus, we must continue to work together to minimise the risk of HMRC’s scrutiny.
So what’s involved?

How much will it cost?
Prices are dependant on the type of business you are and start from as little as £193 per annum for a sole trader, £235 for a partnership and £265 for a limited company. Not much when you work out that’s about 52p per day for peace of mind and protection.
